Our Story
Sterling Prairie is rooted in generations of animal stewardship and a lifelong appreciation for good dogs.
What began as a family love of dogs has grown into a small, thoughtful breeding program built around health, temperament, trainability, capability, and the kind of dogs we would want living in our own home.
Since 2013, our goal has remained simple: raise exceptional companions and thoughtfully match them with exceptional families.

Health & Longevity
We plan each pairing with health, soundness, and longevity in mind. We want our dogs to have the foundation to live long, active, healthy lives with their families.
Temperament & Trainability
We value confident, willing, people-oriented dogs that want to work with their families and have the ability to become great companions.
Athleticism & Capability
We believe a great companion should be capable of doing more than it may ever be asked to do. Whether that means hunting, swimming, running, dock diving, traveling, or simply keeping up with an active family, we want our dogs to have the versatility to thrive.
Raised With Our Family
Our puppies are born and raised on our family farm in Central Illinois. They grow up around our kids and the everyday activity of family life.
From an early age, they’re handled daily and introduced to a variety of sights, sounds, smells, surfaces, animals, and experiences.
We joke that our puppies are “kid-proof,” but what we really mean is that we want them to leave our home confident, curious, adaptable, and ready for the next chapter.
The Right Dog for the Right Family
We don’t believe every puppy is the right fit for every family.
One of the most important parts of what we do is learning what a family is looking for and helping match them with a puppy whose personality, energy level, and potential fit the life they want to share.
Our job is not simply to place puppies. It’s to give each puppy the best opportunity to become a great dog in the right home.
Beyond Puppy Pickup
We want Sterling Prairie families to know they can stay connected long after their puppy goes home. We enjoy seeing our dogs grow up, hearing what they’re doing, and being a resource when questions come up along the way.
